New L.E.D. lights are taking over at many of the light stations. They might work super efficently but compared to the old traditional lights I find them boring, Anyway for those who want to know what they look like here is a taste. I am so glad I got to photograph the stations when these new lights weren't there. The policy of the Commissioners of Irish Lights is to provide safety at sea, in the most cost effective form. Maintaining the traditional lighthouses often involves expensive helicopter flights and therefore, sadly, many of the lovely traditional towers stand without lights in them. I don't think they will be demolished, at least I hope not. It is not my intention to photograph all the modern led lights, someone else can do that if they wish! |
