September 8th Mass was celebrated on the island. The celebrant was Fr Greg Smyth from Butte, Montana who is a friend of Fr Sarsfield whose father lived on the island in the early years of the last century |

A flotilla of boats brought 200 people from the mainland to celebrate the mass |

Amongst the ruins of the old buildings with the coast of the mainland across the sea |

Look at the size of that lintel, imagine how it was lifted into place all those years ago |

Looking towards Kilcatherine Point and the mainland |

Normally being pounded by Atlantic waves but so peaceful this day |

Ruins of the homes where 43 people once lived |

When I first landed on the island 40 years ago this is where we landed, my brother and mother |
