Inishfernard Island ~ off Kilcatherine in Coulagh Bay

Inishfernard

The island in the middle distance with Eyeries in the foreground

September 8th Mass was celebrated on the island. The celebrant was Fr Greg Smyth from Butte, Montana who is a friend of Fr Sarsfield whose father lived on the island in the early years of the last century.

A flotilla of boats brought 200 people from the mainland to celebrate the mass

Fr Greg Smyth celebrating the Mass, Marie Harrington in assistance at the altar

Amongst the ruins of the old buildings with the coast of the mainland across the sea

Look at the size of that lintel, imagine how it was lifted into place all those years ago

Looking towards Kilcatherine Point and the mainland

Fr Greg conducts the Mass

Normally being pounded by Atlantic waves but so peaceful this day

Ruins of the homes where 43 people once lived

When I first landed on the island 40 years ago this is where we landed, my brother and mother

John Dwyer, Dr. John Lyne, Kieran Farrell and myself

If you would like a print of any of these please contact me
