A meal in San Nicolás, so nice to have something decent after cheap Lidl food in most other places |

It was a challenge to find nice food. The tabas in San Nicolás was lovely, as was the food in Martel's in the Yumbo Centre in Playa del Ingles, but the best of all was up in the mountains above Las Palmas, a coach stop for the tourists. We did not go into the restaurant where the tourists were ushered, instead we entered the bar where the locals ate and sat with them. A wonderful stew with real potatoes, and a really nice sweet. Restaurant Balcon de Zamora you get our top billing for serving the nicest meal on our tour of Gran Canaria. Our worst meal award goes to the people at Sioux City for their awful barbeque of cheap Lidl pork steaks that were still pink inside, vaguely cooked sausages and other crap. The Cowboys and Indians show was good, but the food was awful |

Looking north along the western shore, a stunningly beautiful cliff hugging road that just begs to be driven, but be careful, mind them lorries |
See that blue lorry, I met several coming towards me round the twisty road, one mistake and its over the side and 2000 feet to the sea below! |

I end with this shot, one of my favourites, taken in the heart of the mountains |
I went to Gran Canaria January 29 2011 for a week to escape the desperate winter. I flew with Sunway Holidays, booked through Bantry Travel. 2 of us went, cost €598 flights apt and transfers |
