My East Coast Irish Extreme Lighthouse Tour 2014
This is my tour down the East Coast of Ireland, going from Dublin the capital city of the northern part of the Republic to Cork the capital of the southern part and taking in lots of lighthouses along the way. I love showing people Ireland's coast, and would love to meet you

A fabulous five day tour of east coast Irish lighthouses
See the Hook lighthouse (above) on this East Coast tour, the oldest working lighthouse in Europe, take the tour inside
we meet up in Skerries, Co Dublin. This makes an ideal starting point, as we are close to the Irish Sea and will see the light from Rockabill lighthouse just off the coast

Day 1: we go to Howth for a tour of The Baily lighthouse, then afterwards view Poolbeg lighthouse at the mouth of Dublin Harbour.

Here we also see North Bank and North Bull harbour lights. A chance to stretch our legs with a walk along the causeway to Poolbeg and hopefully see some big ships on the way

We head for Dún Laoghaire for the night

Day 2: we visit the Maritime Museum in the old church on the hill overlooking Dún Laoghaire.

Also available are two lighthouses at the entrance to the harbour, plus the Heaquarters of The Commissioners of Irish Lights. Often their tender the ILV Granuaile is moored there
We then drive down the coast to view the Wicklow towers

We spend the night in Wexford, possibly going for a boat trip to the Tuskar Rock that evening. Much depends on the weather
Day 3: we drive down the coast to Rosslare, (below) visit Kilmore Quay. We also visit the Rosslare Maritime Museum
We will stay at the nearest B&B to Hook lighthouse
Day 4: We go to the fabulous Hook Head lighthouse (below) for a tour. Then we take the ferry over to County Waterford to see Dunmore East lighthouse and then make our way to Ballinacourty lighthouse at the mouth of Dungarvan Harbour
We spend the night in Youghal, where there is a lighthouse you just cannot help but notice as its right beside the road (below)

Day 5: we visit Mine Head lighthouse, which has the highest elevation in Ireland, then we go to Ballycotton to see the black lighthouse there which is just offshore on an island. Then its on to Roche's Point (below)at the entrance to Cork Harbour

We spend our final night of the tour in the historic coastal port of Kinsale where we will visit the lighthouse on the impressive Charles Fort that watches over the entrance to the harbour, and also visit the Old Head lighthouse where we can see ruins of what is believed to be the oldest lighthouse in Ireland
In the morning I will take you to the nearby Cork Airport or if you prefer into Cork City
Cost of this tour is €1495 pp and is limited to 8 people
What's included
Tour price includes entry to lighthouses that charge a fee, places to stay (top quality B&Bs), breakfast, boat trips, your guide John Eagle, being chaffeur driven, meeting people who have worked and still work for Irish Lights, bus and driver. Tour is limited to 8 people. Please advise if you are prepared to share or would prefer a single room.
What's not included
Meals other than breakfast. I have considered including all meals, but realise that some people like to go off and do their own thing in the evenings. I also feel that set meals for people tend to be of lower quality. I will do my best to take you to places that offer the best value for money. A small extra charge is made for single rooms by B&B owners and I have to pass this on to whoever wants one
Insurance
I expect you to bring travel insurance with you for your own safety. I will do my level best to make sure you do not come into danger, but the unexpected can happen. I have my own Public Liability Insurance
